Gristwood and Toms have delivered high quality tree contracting services for over 40 years. Throughout that time we have built up a unique knowledge of the challenges involved in managing trees in all environments.
In 2010, we were successful in our bid to deliver the tree maintenance work for the London Borough of Waltham Forest. However, this contract was not a traditional Client:Contractor model. Through the tendering process we proved that we had the understanding, knowledge and skills required to administer the entire process involved in managing an urban tree population.
As part of this contract, we work within the scope of the Borough tree strategy and we are responsible for:
- Surveying all trees on highways, parks, housing and cemetery sites
- Publishing a proactive cyclical tree management regime
- Dealing with all public enquiries relating to trees.
- Handling and defending subsidence claims against the Borough tree stock
- Carrying out all tree planting within the Borough.
Following the award of this contract, several other Local Authorities have seen the benefits achieved by using the knowledge we have developed to care for their tree stock.
We now carry out client functions relating to tree management for multiple authorities including the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, Nottingham City Council and Colas. This means we are the only company in the UK to have such extensive experience of managing trees within an urban environment from both the Local Authority perspective and as a contractor. Our consultants draw upon years of direct, front-line, local authority experience as well as deep industry knowledge and commercial discipline to ensure our clients’ objectives are met.
